Downloads and links

Please install the OT and CASA in advance.  We will add links to the example data and scripts used for hands on sessions.  You are also welcome to bring your own ideas for constructing observing proposals and/or data for simulations or reduction (progress may depend on suitability and time available...)

  • PORTAL

http://almascience.eso.org/
Log in or Register using the tabs on the upper right (not obligatory until you want to submit a proposal but best get it sorted out early!).
Go to the Documents and Tools tab and then to Tools

  • DOCUMENTS

Go to the Documents tab and have a look at anything useful, the Early Science Primer   gives more detail than the web page but is still readable!

  • OBSERVING TOOL

Download the Observing Tool and Quick Start documentation and the ESO example script

  • CASA
Look at the CASA Home Page link and download CASA and the CASA Cookbook

NB CASA 3.2 has just been released, please get this version for optimum functionality.

Download the CARMS data for M99
You will need to refer to the M99 CASA Guide so you might want to print this or cache it locally

Download the ALMA Science Verification data for NGC3256 and the NGC3256 CASA guide  - please note that in the tutorial we will only cover NGC3256 Band3 - Imaging as if you take care to select the calibrated data set, this can be processed on an average  laptop fairly rapidly.

  • DATA AND PROJECTS

If you obtain the downloads above you do not have to bring anything else, but if there is time you might want to work on your own project. If you want to have a go, please bring along any of the following:

  • A FITS image suitable for ALMA simulations (please consult alma@jb.man.ac.uk if you are not sure).
  • Interferometry data to reduce in CASA
  • Ideas for an observing proposal to experiment with in the Observing  Tool.

The project may not get finished in Manchester but we will give any help we can.
