ALMA Workshops

JBCA, Alan Turing Building, Manchester

14-16 December 2011

A three-day workshop, divided between discussion of the science case for ALMA receiver band 2 (65-90 GHz), an update on ALMA status and hands-on ALMA software experience.

You are welcome to attend either or both events, subject to available places.

Registration

Please fill in the Registration form. There is no charge but attendees should provide their own travel and accommodation, here is some local information.

RadioNet financial support available for PIs and CoIs of successful ALMA Cycle 0 proposals and (first come first served) for students/low income researchers. Please indicate whether you need support when registering; if you have already registered, please send an email to amsr@jb.man.ac.uk indicating your approximate costs and whether you are a PI/CoI or student etc. (in which case please also give supervisor name).  Up to pounds 200 will be available per person.

Attendance
Please check the Attendance List and notify us of any errors.  Thank-you.

Agenda

Agenda for the Band 2 Workshop and ALMA data reduction

The science case for Band 2

(65-90 GHz, 3.3-5 mm)

ALMA Band 3 receivers covering 84-116 GHz are currently available on ALMA.  The lower frequency part of the 3mm window, from 65-90 GHz, will be covered by receivers for Band 2. This frequency range covers the J=1-0 transitions of several important deuterated species as well as the J=1-0 and 2-1 transitions for galaxies in the redshift range 0.3 to 0.7 and 1.5 to 2.4 respectively. This workshop will explore the science accessible in Band 2 as an initial step in  developing a robust science case for ALMA observations in Band 2.

ALMA data reduction and project preparation15 Dec (after lunch) - 16 Dec 1530

The first ALMA Science Verification Data are now publicly available and data reduction guides have been prepared for some projects, see http://almascience.eso.org/alma-data/science-verification
